Nature Park in Chukotka, Russia

In 2018 BCF raised $15,000 to make a grant to BirdsRussia in order to support their work preparing a Chukotka Nature Park project description as required by the Russian Ministry of Natural Resources and Ecology. The proposed park is focused on protecting the heart of the known Spoon-billed Sandpiper breeding territory.

The park concept will need to ensure the blending of interests of conservation of habitats and endangered species with the interests of indigenous communities that follow a traditional lifestyle of subsistence economy, within the context of the exploitation of mineral resources and industrial construction.

Update: BirdsRussia completed the first phase of the project and provided a report to BCF in anticipation of the project’s second phase which will require meetings with stakeholders and communities to demonstrate support for the project.
